DSCN3879-1London Fashion Week kicked off to a great start with Bora Aksu not with a palette of Rule Britannia but instead with Turkish Delight!  Optimistic sky blues and delicious citrus lemons adorned short full skirts with pinched in waists and beautifully cut boleros edged in tassels were followed by an array of long chiffon fuchsia dresses detailed with hand crochet. A collection heavily influenced by his homeland, Turkey, this was Bora Aksu’s highly engaging tribute.

burberryss14-1Harry Styles, Alexa Chung and Paloma Faith were amongst the celebrities watching It-girl model Cara Delevingne at Burberry Prorsum’s luxe runway show in Kensington Gardens. With a late summer and an abundance of unreliable weather in 2013 many designers have opted for a mix of summer and warmer pieces in their SS14 collections. Burberry, iconic for trenchcoats showed less than the normal amount instead opting for a host of unstructured coats with minimal fastenings.

Returning to Somerset House, we were looking at J. JS. Lee in the Designer Showrooms, when Tracy turned around to find Vince Cable MP and Business Secretary for the government admiring her tiger-print sculptured hat. He was very interested to hear about our book Fashion Fabulous London and thought the concept was a wonderful idea. He finished saying to Tracy “You are wearing the best of London fashion!”

Back to the shows we found Christopher Raeburn firmly predicting a scorching hot summer next year focusing on a desert protection theme with an array of functional layering should the UK become covered in sand! We liked the indigo, and grey jumps suits and shirt dresses made from his signature parachute fabric with camouflage mesh.

DSCN3927-1Christopher Raeburn is definitely a name to watch and is stocked in Matches and Harvey Nichols. After the show, Somerset House’s delightful historical courtyard was packed.  The lovely people from This Morning programme on ITV met up with Tracy for an interview for comments on London Fashion Week. The programme went out a few days later.

Exterior-wise, the Somerset House show space was strikingly decorated in abstracts by Nicolas Kirkwood and as a souvenir to visitors the BFC gave out attractive matching bags! (see above). Inside, we were all in for a surprise. The place was completely revamped, hugely bigger and the seating had been completely re-arranged into a kind of  “U”-shape configuration – we thought it worked well.  “It’s much better and it holds 30% more people!”  Security told us.

Catching our eye around the exhibition were these sumptuous bags by Sonya Kashmiri.

…and this dazzling necklace by Christopher Kane on the Atelier Swarovoski stand!

DSCN3899-1Over at Fashion Scout held at the Freemasons Hall in Covent Garden, there was an enthusiastic crowd waiting for Yifang Wan’s runway show. On the front row were Emeli Sande, Alexandra Burke and Rita Ora – well not quite! They were extremely good lookalikes! However, there was no mistaking the creative quality of Yifang Wan’s irregular cut skirts with geometrical hemlines offering different views front and back.

DSCN3901-1Mini-dresses had daring high thigh slits great for hot summer days. Shimmering down the catwalk were green lurex shirts and light grey lurex dresses with matching unstructured jackets.
