TopshopUniqueSS14-1

The Topshop Unique runway show definitely hit the summer button showcasing strappy sundresses with low backs featuring cracked tiled prints in blue and white while others came in panelled prints. Scattered mirror embellished dresses in white echoed the easy going summer style. Rucksacks and slip on mules completed a look aimed at beach lovers, rooftop sun-worshippers or lazy afternoons in London’s parks. Aptly set in the elegantly landscaped Regent’s College, Regent’s Park – it was packed despite the pouring rain. Anna Wintour accessorised her outfit with a male chaperone holding an umbrella at arms length over her. Will the trend catch on? Inside, Cara Delevingne sashayed down the manicured grassy catwalk to an enthusiastic audience that included Kate Moss. Pixie Geldolf, Daisy Lowe, Ellie Goulding and of course Sir Philip Green. After the show we bumped into Hilary Alexander who now writes for M&S and Darren Kennedy from This Morning. Thoughtfully, the organisers had arranged wooden planks to walk on outside to avoid the mud!

DSCN3951-1A delightful “Secret  Garden” was the perfect venue for Sophia Webster’s presentation a few minutes walk from the Topshop catwalk space.  Although there were gale force winds and torrential rain, safe under a large canopy , the girly flowery presentation put a smile on everyone’s face.

Laser-cut leather butterflies adorned the backs and fronts of shoes. Others delighted with clashing black and white spots and bright colours. Speech bubble clutch bags “You look like NO” and “Bite me” were fun.

DSCN3958-1Guests were treated to prosecco and a DJ. Trend-wise, the slip dresses that have just hit the retail shops are still going to be a strong look for next summer. Florals will feature at Mulberry and Christopher Kane who had transparent fabric botanical drawings.

DSCN3993-1Returning to the Somerset House Designer Showrooms along The Strand , Fashion Fabulous tips Kerrie Luft shoes whose debut show collection at has beautiful petal heels with a gold metal stiletto. Kerrie assured Fashion Fabulous “that despite their fragile look they were very sturdy.”

DSCN3967-1Digital technology met fashion at the Samsung Galaxy Lounge where Samsung was showcasing their latest Gear fashion watches that brought cool smartphone technology to the wearers wrist. We gave one of the watches a road test and thought it was great.

DSCN3965-2Lavazza coffee kept our energy levels up throughout London Fashion Week. There were lots of places around Somerset House to enjoy it especially  the Courtyard and Toms Deli that was also serving soups, salads and sandwiches . Here’s Fashion Fabulous’s Tracy Rose chilling out with an Americano at The Galaxy Lounge designed by Nicholas Kirkwood.

Off-site at the St Martin’s Lane Hotel, Covent Garden, for Charlie May’s runway,  we chilled out pre-show at the luxurious Light Bar adorned attractively with rose wallpaper, pink and draped silk ceilings. Slip dresses in white and turquoise overlaid with white mesh gave a nice effect. There were minimal looks with frayed hemlines and leather short jackets and pencil skirts in metallic gold and pink. A collaboration with Hudson on a white brogue with a silver zip around the sole gave the perfect finishing touches to her collection.  For a review of Asia de Cuba at the hotel see our book.

Nico 1-3Over at The Bloomsbury Set Event on 235 Shaftesbury Avenue, Soho designer-run boutique Nico Didonna rolled out another great collection of sophisticated dresses in transparent shot organza and satin (see above and below).

Nico 2Original asymmetric and sculptured details are sure to be a big hit with Nico’s discerning clientele.

DSCN3943-1Karen K, another of the exciting designers showing at The Bloomsbury Set Event, demonstrated her flair for designing dramatic shoes with a strong accent on comfort in a raunchy but highly stylish runway show. Standouts were the low-cut front shoe-boots and multi-strap knee-highs complete with skyscraper heels.

DSCN3949-1As Louboutin has signature red soles, Karen K’s are easily identifiable too with her famous signature Swarovski crystal embedded in the sole.

DSCN3943-1Yong Kyun Shin is one of the emerging talent that Fashion Fabulous predicts you’ll be seeing in the shops soon.

DSCN3946-1Yong Kyun Shin, fron South Korea showed innovative cuts and jagged edges in greys and nude pinks in fabrics of silk, denim and metal at Fashion Scout, Freemasons Hall, Covent Garden .

DSCN3957-1Apu Jan produced a romantic collection that also featured abstract graphic details of electronic signals and some sophisticated ideas that might please enthusiasts of semiotics (the study of signs and symbols).

DSCN3956-1Apu Jan also showed intricate patterned prints in super fine silk and cotton yarns with silhouettes reminiscent of Taiwanese heritage.

DSCN3988-1Also for this presentation, Fam Irvoll collaborated with Vin + Omi that has a fashion and accessory label VO.

….Matthew Williamson surprised LFW by showing tailored trouser suits, pencil skirts and shifts.

DSCN3999-1Tata Naka paid homage to The Ballet Russe using rust  and mustard applique on transparent structured shapes. Their blocked shoe boots in leather and suede are welcome addition to their existing popular range.
