We look at over a thousand fashion shops in London and then pick the top 200 and review them in detail. From luxurious Bond Street to edgy Shoreditch and Brick Lane we give unbiased reviews of the hottest places to buy fashion. Here we give an excerpt from the upcoming edition of Fashion Fabulous London.

Belstaff, 135 New Bond Street, London W1S 2TQ t: 0207 495 5897 |Mon-Sat 10am-7pm, Sun 12pm-6pm | Nearest Tube Bond Street, 5 min walk | http://www.belstaff.co.uk | Category: British Heritage |TOP 200 Shop  |Womenswear and Menswear |Own label |Sizes: Women: 4-16,   Men: 34-48

The only thing missing from this store is the sound of cool motor bikes revving up and 1920’s aeroplanes taking off. Founded in 1924 in Staffordshire, Belstaff made its name through the innovation of water resistant wax cotton fabrics Belstaff’s classic belted four pocket jackets have had historically a following that included T.E Lawrence and in modern times David Beckham, Sarah Jessica Parker and British trial racer Sammy Miller. In-store you’ll see proudly displayed awesome motor bikes, a table loaded with books on aviators and motorcyclists  that have influenced the collections. To the rear is a dedicated room for Belstaff – Goodwood collaboration. This is a British company but the leather is made in Italy.

On Women’s: Belstaff draws inspiration from female aviators Amy Johnson and Amelia Earhart using leather, shearling, wool, and rabbit fur. The androgenous pieces mixed luxury with practicality. I tried on an eggshell toned leather aviator jacket priced £1395 featuring a front belted neck and waist with three zips that were a bit of a struggle to close.  Service was friendly and the assistant was happy to try different sizes and shapes and he helped with the zip. The changing room was very amenable with a very good table, three mirrors, sofa, and gold wall hooks. I liked the suede yellow fringe sleeve coat at £2250. Lots of jackets, coats, and parkas are essentially the same as the men’s but there are lace dresses, short skirts such as a terrific red leather mini that has real and definite femininity.DSCN6026-2

On Men’s: I tried on a waxed cotton classic jacket with the signature square front pockets that rocked with a Union Jack at the back for £550 celebrating one of the firm’s anniversaries. There are more men’s than women’s with a good selection of jeans, biker boots and brown leather jackets.

Belstaff also has stores at 14 Lamb Street, Spitalfield, E1 and Westfield Shopping Centre, London W12, and is stocked in Selfridges, Harrods and Harvey Nichols and Stuarts, Shepherd Bush.

Summer is in the air but the Autumn Winter collections will soon be arriving in the shops. Here’s our sneak preview of more of the best shown at London Fashion Week! Over-sized knits are teamed with mini skirts and midi heels for the  Alexander Lewis full-on look

033-1The show kicked off with burgundy wool coats with detachable fur hemlines Giant dogtooth, stripes adorned with gold metal buttons and zips.

042-1Designs were inspired by the Siege of Sidney Street in London’s East End in 1911. Winston Churchill led an army of police and troops against a heavily armed gang. Churchill wore a fur collared coat and here Kane uses lambswool fur collars on bomber jackets to great effect.

030-1The show took place at Christ Church Commercial Street a stone’s throw away from Joshua Kane’s Flagship Store in 53 Brushfield Street London E1.

Celebrities on the catwalk included Dougie Poynter from McBusted, Taboo from the Black Eyed Peas and US rapper Machine Kelly.  Frowing  DJ Alex Zane, Leah Weller, Made-in Chelsea stars including Oliver Proudlock. Sitting alongside us DJ Roman Kemp from Captial FM and singer Betsy-Blue.

029-1Baartmans and Siegel showed relaxed elegance with a camel and grey colour focus.

014-1Zig-Zags galore at Christopher Kane collection at his flagship store in Mount Street, Mayfair, London W1!

064-1Chester Barrie showed Windowpane Checks in blues and greys to great effect

070-1Matching floral shirts and jacket over polo was just one of the great looks at the Duchamp Collection showing at the Rosewood Hotel, Holborn.

073-1More checks on smart casuals. Duchamp showed crisp cottons under single-breasted wool jackets.

078-1Gieves and Hawkes collection was a big success with Tommy Hilfiger and David Gandy amongst the onlookers. Bronze brocade appeared again as a key look for next party season!

079-1This coat also impressed us at Gieves and Hawkes whot stripped out their Savile Row flagship shop for London Collections: Men

094-1Across the road at Dashing Tweeds, 26 Sackville Street, Guy Hills showed his new collection of innovative fabrics in classic British styles.

100-1Whilst the shop is small, Dashing Tweeds packed a big punch with this contemporary leather panelled coat.

006-1Thom Sweeney showed sleek immaculate tailoring

008-1Thom Sweeney at 33a Bruton Place, Mayfair is definitely a place to visit!

027-1Soaking up the great shows and presentations!

DSCN6003-1Fashion Fabulous has been going to London Fashion Week for sixteen years and over the years seen many amazing shows, presentations, interviewed inspiring designers and had the pleasure of attending lots of great parties! Compiled are some the highlights of the latest London Fashion Week that took place on 18th-22nd September…

Here’s Issa (above) showing the sheer elegance of pure whites at their London Fashion Week catwalk show.

DSCN6001-1Signature draping was used on silk and jersey dresses. Issa showed fascinating geometric prints that are sure to be a big hit in London stores next Spring.

This time the hub of London Fashion Week moved from Somerset House to Brewer Street Car Park, Soho! The highlight of the London Fashion Calendar this is the go to event where top and upcoming designers showed their Spring/Summer 2016 collections on the catwalk or exhibit at this trade exhibition. London hotels and restaurants are filled with the international fashion set. Besides the on-schedule shows, Fashion Scout ran a parallel alternative schedule of catwalk shows and exhibits at the Freemasons Hall, Covent Garden. Also On|Off was back with shows at the Vinyl Factory in Marshall Street and new to London Fashion Week was Scoop at the Saatchi Gallery, King’s Road.

DSCN5991-1A great presentation at Edeline Lee (above) featured aqua, lilac, primrose yellow and coral colour blocked in a cool relaxed but striking manner.

DSCN5996-1Vielma opted for a retro ” Vegas baby” theme. Midnight blues with star motifs are going to be a favourite in this collection.

Fashion maximalism ruled at Fyodor Golan’s catwalk show! The inspiration apparently was “Transformers” the sci-fi iconic futuristic robots.

Fyodor Golan used lots of colour! The shoes were made in collaboration with Kat Maconie.

DSCN6000-1Dame Zandra Rhodes new collection was inspired by Malaysia where its produced.

DSCN6003-1We liked Robert Wun’s collection at On|Off at the Vinyl Factory, Soho

…and Marketa Martiskova also at On|Off

DSCN5704-1

As fashion reviewers for over 1000 London shops, we’ve been heavily tracking Christopher Raeburn, David Koma and Belstaff as labels that we think have potential for massive greatness. Sure, London Fashion Week is a wonderful showcase for the big established  labels like Burberry, Vivienne Westwood and Paul Smith to name but a few – but we want to highlight perhaps less familiar names to the savvy fashion shopper opening up more avenues of choice!

We’ve come across Christopher Raeburn’s ethical, recycled remade ex-military designs on our visits to Dover Street Market, Machine A and Harvey Nichols and have become increasingly impressed. The show had all his core design signatures: capes, puffer jackets and duffle coats (See above picture). Fun motifs of bubbles and sharks adorned shirtdresses and jumpsuits. Raeburn’s casual style extends using Japanese wool denims successfully on knee length skirts and pinafore dresses.

DSCN5704-1David Koma is stocked in Browns Focus, South Molton Street just off Oxford Street with a growing reputation in France, Italy, Russia and USA. His hot glitz catwalk featured long legged models in minis decked out with circular cutouts a theme carried through to macramé lace and fishnet in black and nude. Check the black patent detailing to complete the look. Indigo and orange eveningwear had a mix of perspex and crystal which seemed to have built in flashbulbs!

DSCN5711-1Belstaff drew inspiration from female aviators Amy Johnson and Amelia Earhart using leather, shearling, wool, and rabbit fur. The androgenous pieces mixed luxury with practicality. The presentation held at a crumbling mansion setting in Clerkenwell was a far cry from their normal retail locations at 135 New Bond Street, Selfridges, Harrods and Harvey Nichols. Unstructured white shirts were paired with brown and tan aviator jackets. Great collection!

DSCN5710Daniela and Annette Felder took inspiration from 1960’s Berlin. Sheer silk organza and lace worked well on dresses and separates. We liked the black shirt dress with sheer shoulders and fringed hemline. The show concluded with metallic rose gold head turning micro-minis. A very good collection and interestingly took place at Fashion Scout, Covent Garden the very first place that Felder &  Felder showed in London.

DSCN5705-1Eudon Choi was our first show of London Fashion Week at the BFC Space at Somerset House. The runway was a sleek elegant affair with an abundance of trousers. Wide leg versions featured a flash of colour down one side, whilst flares either skimmed the floor or finished just above the ankle. Blocked colours, and bold large circles were key to this collection. Sumptuous satin evening wear in two colour combos in yellow-gold with flashes of blue were amongst our favourites.

DSCN5724-1We caught up with HEMYCA design duo Helen Clinch and Myra Nigris for their enchanting presentation in the Atrium of the ME Hotel, Aldwych . Beautifully displayed were models wearing striking red and black tartans -so very adaptable for autumnal wear. Amongst our favourite pieces was an elegant pale blue knee length dress with black lace. Season on season HEMYCA have shown a consistency to make great wearable collections. Definitely a label to watch!

??????????

Also at the ME Hotel but partying at the Marconi Lounge was Ada Zanditon showing her delightful warrior goddess couture collection. A presentation full of glitz, laser cut fabrics embellished with crystals sculpturally entwined into bodices in gold and silver. Matched up with silver, gold or black skirts and dresses- perfect for parties!

DSCN5726-1Fashion Fabulous’s Tracy Rose reporting from the front row

??????????Scottish designer Jonathan Saunders wowed again with printed graphics at TOPSHOP Show Space –this time at Tate Britain, Pimlico. Joy and optimism inspired the Op Art prints in clashing colours that included purple, red, black, white and green. Models sashayed in Christian Louboutin over the knee lace-up boots. Like many designers showing in London, Saunders opted for high necks. Check his collection at Matches, Harvey Nichols, Joseph and Liberty. Gyo Yuni Kimchoe (see below) went for oversized heavy tweed coats worn with wide legged trousers of the same fabric.

DSCN5708Designers Gyo Kim and Yuni Choe showed their eco-friendly ethos by using faux fur and leather in the collection. As with many shows that at LFW, fringes finished off hemlines.
