London Fashion Week famed for its womenswear catwalks also feature a selected number of outstanding menswear shows. This is a new designer and was one of the best! Harry Xu’s show at Fashion Scout, Covent Garden had a  vision attempting to symbolise the conflict between reality and fantasy explored through a journey from teenage street-style to modern society mature man.

Here are our highlights: Among the key designs were the paired-three graduated sized pockets featured on coats and jackets (see above).

041-1

Contrasting Panels: This one was in white with stripe down the sleeve and contrasting panels at the back.

042-1

Translucent chiffon shirts matched with  wide-leg trousers. For the more fanciful there were embroidered floral shirts too!

045-1

There’s a lot of blue this season and Harry Xu pulls it off in a very wearable way!

054-1

Floral crystal coats were an important feature in this collection.

053-1

Intricate embroidered hoodies! A great catwalk show!

We look at over 1000 fashion shops when we write each edition of our book series Fashion Fabulous London. In our second instalment of our coverage of London Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2017 collections we take a look at some of the more emerging brands that you may not have come across elsewhere. Among our favourites was an impressive Sid Neigum Show at the British Fashion Council Show Space, Brewer Street Car Park, Soho.

See Now! Buy Now! Was the new fashion runway concept to hit many London Fashion Week’s Spring/Summer 2017 collections from big brands such as Burberry through to retailers such as Oliver Spencer and emerging brands like Helter. First up, Rennie Mackintosh’s watercolour paintings inspired Teatum Jones’s LFW show at BFC Space, Soho, London (pictured above). Teatum Jones as did many others followed the traditional route of previewing for SS17.

027-1

We loved the Rohmir show at Fashion Scout, Freemasons Hall, Covent Garden. On Rohmir’s catwalk the English Country House was the source of inspiration with a large collection of glamorous yet well-behaved sophisticated dresses. Lots of florals from Liberty-style small prints to bolder painterly prints for daywear and evening were in evidence. Tweeds on dresses and suits were edged with feathers  Designer Olga Roh did a great job and we are great fans of her Maddox Street boutique just off Bond Street.

??????????Emilio del la Morena’s runway was just one of the many fashion shows where audiences enthusiastically filmed, photographed and instagramed  catwalk finales. As mentioned in the first episode of our coverage of London Fashion Week Fashion Fabulous reviews over 1000 London shops, and heavily tracks all the  labels that we think have potential for meteoric rise. Of course, London Fashion Week is a superb showcase for the hugely marketed labels like Vivienne Westwood, Burberry, and Paul Smith to name but a few – but we want to highlight perhaps less familiar names to the savvy fashion shopper opening up more avenues of choice!

??????????In the case of Emilio de la Morena we were very impressed indeed with the draped velvet alongside shimmering jersey fashioned into heading bodycon dresses.

DSCN5733The Giles collection was full historical and gothic references. Sashes, bows, and capes accompanied knickerbockers and frock coats. Ruffles were dramatically used on neck lines and sleeves. Located at Central Saint Martins, Kendall Jenner was watched by supermodel Cara Delevingne and a star studed front row that included Dailsy Lowe, Jaime Winstone and Gwendoline Christie.

DSCN5715-1If your mantra is location, location, location, then The Middle Temple near the Embankment was a splendid 16th Century venue for newcomer to London Fashion Week, Royal Fashion Day. Amongst the brands catwalked were Luca Michelle, Reka Orosz, Elena Rul, and Innu. Between runways, champagne and cocktails were served.

DSCN5727-1Danielle Romeril took a space on the terrace of Somerset House to produce a presentation featuring a warrior wardrobe collection of blanket wraps and asymmetric tartan skirts edged in leather using a technique originating from the Samurai.

TogaAW15-1The TOGA collection featured an array of relaxed easy going daywear. Neutral colours were given a lift with shots of shocking pink!

??????????Here’s Fashion Fabulous’s Russell Rose in between shows at Somerset House

??????????The final show of London Fashion week, H by Hakaan Yildirim showed tiger prints looking great in black and silver carried through to oversize fur coats. We liked the corset tops given a twist with lace-up sides. Cropped trousers with beaded high neck fitted tops will surely be a big hit for eveningwear in either red or green.

DSCN5145-1Felder Felder, Christopher Raeburn, Fyodor Golan and Eudon Choi were just a few of the wonderful headline catwalk fashion shows at the first day of London Fashion Week on 12th September 2014. We’ve been going to London Fashion Week for fifteen years and over the years seen many amazing shows, presentations, interviewed inspiring designers and had the pleasure of attending lots of great parties! Here are some the highlights of our first day at London Fashion Week…

Emerging Portuguese designer João Melo Costa produced impressive multicoloured effects (above ).

??????????Felder Felder’s collection was hot, wearable and full of panache! Designer twins Daniela and Annette used German model Veruschka von Lehndorff as their muse.  We adored the flamingo pinks and blues!

DSCN5156-1Felder Felder models sashayed down the runway in micro-minis slit at the front or skater. Maxis were slashed to the thigh.

DSCN5154-1Felder Felder focused on animal and floral prints.  This very popular brand is available at many stores throughout London.

DSCN5149-1Fashion Fabulous’s Tracy Rose at the Felder Felder Show, Somerset House, Strand, London. Also watching the show was Millie Mackintosh, Rosie Fortescue, Donna Air and Laura Whitmore.

DSCN5171-1Another marvellous collection for SS15 for Christopher Raeburn – fashion show at LFW! We loved the mix of fighter pilot suits with silk organza re-fashioned in to dresses, jackets and separates. Christopher Raeburn is available at Harvey Nichols, Knightsbridge.

DSCN5170-1…. More Christopher Raeburn!

DSCN5116-1Faustine Steinmetz gave a cool collection at the Institute of Contemporary Arts. Each piece is unique and hand-made. Weaving is used to create remarkable fringed and raw edged effects!

DSCN5115-1…Another great Faustine Steinmetz creation!

DSCN5140-1João Melo Costa delighted the fashionista audience at Fashion Scout Covent Garden with bodices that were exaggerated squares that stand away from the body making fascinating silhouettes.
